A man and a child died on Tuesday morning at a slum located next to the Wilson airport along Lang’ata road in Nairobi after a fire broke out in the area.
The fire, burning down 40 houses destroyed property of unknown value leaving several families without homes.
The man is said to have been working as a taxi driver and had gone home in the morning to sleep after working all through the night.
Witnesses say the man did not wake up even as the fire burned down his house.
Residents blamed the slow response of the fire fighters saying that the fire could have been contained if they had arrived on time.
They further claimed that only two trucks had water.
The are asking the county government to relocate them to a new place.
