Two Minors Killed in Accident Involving Governor’s Escort

What had started out as a simple drive to the airport turned out to be a tragic disaster for Marsabit Governor's envoy after an accident that claimed the lives of two boys took place.

The Monday afternoon incident took place at around 3:30 pm.

The two youngsters 16 -year-old Ramadan Robe and Abu-Bakr Hussein aged 17 had been riding a motor cycle towards Marsabit when the envoy came by.

Governor Ukur Yatani was headed to the airstrip to catch a flight to Nairobi.

A driver to one of the escort cars lost control of the vehicle when the car in front of him blew a cloud of dust, hindering visibility.

The land cruiser ran into the two boys who had stopped by the roadside to give way to the vehicles.

The victims were rushed to Marsabit County Hospital.

Robe died at the hospital while receiving treatment, Hussein succumbed to injuries a few hours later.

The bodies were moved to Marsabit County Hospital mortuary.

Apart from the two, no one else was injured in the accident.

Speaking to The Star, Marsabit county liaison officer Abdi Ngurusi confirmed the incident and said that the government would cater for all the costs incurred by the two families.

In the meantime, police continue to investigate the incident.
