Upto Ksh50,000 Offered To Chiefs To Get People Registered For IDs

The campaign to get more Kenyans to register for their national identification cards by giving them incentives continues in different parts of the country.

In Nyatike, the situation is no different. This time, however, it is the chiefs who are getting incentives to encourage the people in their areas of administration to get themselves IDs.

Nyatike MP Edick Omondi Anyanga promised chiefs who will assist over 1,000 people to acquire IDs Ksh10,000 while the chief with the highest number will receive Ksh50,000 on top.

The MP was speaking at a local radio station where he said they were targeting the youth most especially ahead of the 2017 general elections.

He said the move was aimed at getting chiefs to step up their campaigns in registering residents.

Offering pay perks to residents to get them registered for IDs is the latest strategy being employed by politicians.

While the motive behind the incentives is to have more people voting during the general elections, some leaders have maintained that it is in the best interests of the residents to have their IDs.

Anyanga said that the young people especially the students in his constituency would have better chances getting jobs if they had IDs.
