VIDEO: 40 Youth Arrested In Mombasa Crackdown

40 youth were arrested in Mombasa during a campaign aimed at eradicating drug dens at the Coast.

The young men and women were seized in Mikindani and Changamwe area on Sunday evening where 50 sachets of heroine and 42 rolls of bhang were recovered.

County Commissioner Nelson Marwa pleaded with the residents of those areas to present names of those involved so that they can curb the drug manace wasting away the youth.

This was the first raid to be executed following President Uhuru Kenyatta's strict directive to fight illegal drugs in the region.

The President asked leaders from the Coast to start the operation immediately when he opened the annual Mombasa International Agricultural Show on Thursday last week in Mkomani Nyali.

The leaders from affeted areas have responded to the President's order by involving the community to find out the best way to manage the situation.

Drug use and abuse in the coastal towns of Kenya has risen to alarming levels over the years with an estimated 20,000 youth reported to be addicts.
