VIDEO: MP Loses Temper in Parliament

Drama erupted in Parliament on Thursday during a heated debate that almost turned to physical confrontation causing a Member of Parliament to be kicked out of the House.

Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali was forced out of Parliament when he lost his temper, accusing Speaker Justin Muturi of bias, after he ruled against ammendments that sought to include Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero in a report on the downfall of Mumias Sugar Company.

In his proposed ammendments to the Agriculture Committee's report, Washiali sought Kidero's inclusion arguing that the Governor ought to take responsibility for collapse of the Kakamega based sugar miller.

The infuriated lawmaker also accused leaders of a certain community of trying to cut the livelihood of the Luhya nation.

He was, however, met with fierce opposition from Gem lawmaker Jakoyo Midiwo and his Homa Bay Town counterpart Peter Kaluma, who suspected that Washiali had other interests in the matter.

The Assembly Speaker called in about five sergeant at arms who escorted Washiali out and barred him from addressing media at the Parliament buildings.

On Wednesday, the same matter moved by the Mumias East MP sparked a bitter exchange prompting the Speaker to stop proceedings unceremoniously.

The amendments which included barring Kidero from holding public office and being surcharged Sh577 Million over sugar exports, were to be seconded by Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando with a backing of the Majority leader in Parliament Aden Duale.
