Watchman Dies After Feasting on 'Honey'

A watchman died while four other men survived after enjoying what seemed like honey at a timber-yard in Nyeri County.

56-year-old Stanley OIemereru and his colleagues are said to have mistaken a tree extract they found in logs for honey and went on to have a feast before the watchman developed stomach problems.

One of the workers, John Githinji, said that they gave the watchman a glass of water before he requested to have a rest.

Mr Githenji said they scrambled for the 'honey' but shortly after, they all developed stomach aches and began vomiting.

“When we went to check on the watchman, we found him dead,” Githinji said.

Three of the victims were admitted at the Nyeri Referral Hospital with doctors picking a sample of the substance for examination.

Nyeri County Secretary Alice Wachira, who visited that scene, cautioned residents of the area against taking anything they thought was edible.
