Waititu Reveals He Feared Attending Raila’s Lunch Date

Kabete Member of Parliament Ferdinand Waititu has indicated that he declined an invite to the lunch date where CORD leader Raila Odinga hosted legislators accused of hate speech.

Odinga had earlier explained that Waititu could not attend the ‘peace-making’ lunch meeting as he as at a funeral.

However, speaking Wednesday evening during an interview on Inooro TV, the Kabete MP revealed that he turned down the offer.

"I do not trust them at all, I feared we would have our lunch then they change tune while addressing the press," Waititu stated.

The former Prime Minister on Tuesday hosted seven of the eight MPs detained at Pangani and Muthaiga Police Stations for lunch at the popular K’Osewe Ranalo Foods restaurant in Nairobi.

Jubilee lawmakers Moses Kuria and his Bahati counterpart Kimani Ngunjiri attended the lunch after which they alluded to having agreed to put their differences aside and unite the country.

CORD members present were Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama and MPs Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba) and Junet Mohammed (Suna East), as well as Women Reps Aisha Jumwa (Kilifi) and Florence Mutua (Busia).

Meanwhile, this comes as the latest incident where Odinga has issued a conflicting statement.  On the eve of Madaraka Day, Odinga and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula were invited to State House and after a meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta, the Opposition leader stated that they had decided to form a 10-member committee that would lead talks on the IEBC stalemate.

Moments later, State House disputed the statement.

Two weeks ago, Odinga claimed CORD and Jubilee had agreed to form a four-member committee to resolve the IEBC impasse. In response to the assertions, a statement from Jubilee denied knowledge of such an agreement.
