Two bar maids were stripped naked and severely beaten by boda boda operators in Imenti South, Meru County after allegedly colluding to steal a motorbike from a customer.
The women who were admitted at Mitunguu Nursing Hospital after the incident, were attacked at a bar where they worked, after a drunk man claimed that the two had stolen his motor bike.
This sparked anger from other bike owners in the bar who assaulted the women, stripped them naked and frogmarched them around Town.
It was only after the thorough beating, that the bar owner came forth and said that he had the keys to the man's motor bike, and had taken it from him when he realised that the owner was too drunk to ride.
Witnesses to the incident claimed police officers saw the incident but failed to take immediate action.
“That was not a respectable thing to do. Therefore help us nab those culprits and take them to Court,”said Mitunguu OCS Raphael Mutua while addressing residents.
The extreme measures taken by the operators forced area church leaders and women to take to the streets, protesting against the unfounded violence and shaming of victims.
