Citizen TV Owner SK Macharia Says Raila Won 2007 Presidential Election

Royal Media Services (RMS) Chairman SK Macharia on Tuesday stated that CORD leader Raila Odinga won the much-contested 2007 General Election.

Appearing before the parliamentary committee collecting views on the recently passed Election law, SK noted that the 2007 statistics were crystal clear that Mr Odinga emerged top.

"Raila Odinga won the 2007 election, the loser of that election MWAI KIBAKI was declared winner," Macharia said.

The Citizen TV owner added that: "The one who was declared the winner in 2007 was not the winner. We tracked all the results through satellite phones. As per my records, Raila won the elections."

SK further mentioned that in 2013, he also raised an alarm of a disputed Presidential Election.

"I tried to convince them even President Uhuru Kenyatta knows this. If you read the IEBC summary report, it says there was confusion in the 2013 register," Macharia noted.

In his presentation to the legislators, Macharia stated that MOA was supportive of an electoral process that was agreeable to all the political parties.

He also disagreed with Information Communications Technology CS Joe Mucheru that network coverage was needed to transmit election results.

“I heard what Mucheru said and it is not true. In 2002, we transmitted results from every polling stations through the use of satellite phones that were provided to us by USAID,” the MOA Chairman stated.

He proposed that a complimentary digital backup be introduced in voter recognition such that those who are not identified by the Biometric Voter Identification (BVI) kits are made to wait until the electronic backup is brought to the polling station.

He supported the electronic voting system and suggested that satellite phones could be used in areas not covered by mobile phone networks.

The media mogul firmly pointed out "For the record I am not here on behalf of CORD or on behalf of Jubilee. I am here to lead the delegation from the Media Owners Association.”
