Francis Nyenze Claims Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka Should Have Been Declared Flag-bearer

The announcement by the National Super Alliance (NASA), on Thursday, that they had settled on Kalonzo Musyoka as Raila Odinga’s running mate, has ruffled feathers in the Wiper Party.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, the National Assembly Minority Leader Francis Nyenze, who was also a member of the National Coordinating Committee charged with identifying NASA’s flag-bearer, stated that the ‘Kamba Nation’ got a raw deal.

Nyenze revealed that NASA’s announcement that they had settled on Raila as flag-bearer came as a shocker both to the party and their supporters who were expecting Kalonzo’s ascend to the top seat.

He lamented that it would be difficult to convince the 'Kamba Nation' to play second fiddle to Raila and tow the line after they were short-changed yet again in the infamous 2013 Memorandum of Understanding.

“We cannot assume that our people can just follow some instruction, they have to explain why Kalonzo was not picked as flag-bearer,” said Nyenze.

The Minority Leader noted that there was a bad feeling out after the declaration, noting that the expectations of the ‘Kamba Nation’ were thwarted.

“It’s not good to pretend things are in order when they are not okay...we need to consult and heal,” complained Nyenze.

Nyenze further revealed that the leaders would withdraw and deliberate on Thursday’s Uhuru Park declaration and report back to their supporters on the way forward.

A position supported by Kitui Senator David Musila who stated that they were in the dark in regards to the deal by NASA on Thursday.

Musila announced that they had also invited NASA co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka to delve into the issue further.

The Kitui Senator, in the press briefing, reiterated that he had quit Wiper Party over irregularities and left his position as chairman over claims that party leader Kalonzo Musyoka interfered with the primaries where he lost to Governor Julius Malombe.
