8 Military-Trained Officers are Trailing Raila Odinga - Siaya Senator James Orengo Reveals

Siaya Senator James Orengo has claimed that National Super Alliance (NASA) flag bearer Raila Odinga’s life could be in danger.

Addressing the press on Tuesday, Orengo alleged that there were eight military-trained police officers who had been trailing Raila since Monday.

"These officers are using police vehicles with non-GK number plates that keep changing. They were relocated to Kiambu on an unspecified mission," he stated.

According to Orengo, the eight are among 60 officers who underwent a two-month training in Katulo, Wajir.

"Prior to the release of the eight officers, a number of trainees had from time to time shadowed and trailed Raila and other co-principals in their daily political activities," he noted.

"We fear Jubilee is hatching a similar plan again with this suspicious training."

Orengo claimed the 60 AP officers were also trained at Kahawa military barracks in Nairobi under the leadership of a retired lieutenant called Kimunya.

He added that officers were ordered to operate as ordinary civilians while using equipment from the police force.

"We are not going to wait to tell the tale after the crime is committed. We must raise the flag to protect our leaders," he said.

"We challenge [IG Joseph] Boinnet to account for officers under his charge. We are aware officers on this mission have been made to surrender their official status documents."

The Senator asked President Uhuru Kenyatta and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to ensure the safety of the former premier.

He warned that the coalition would hold the president and Mr Boinnet responsible if anything happened to the Opposition Chief.

“This is not an idle statement. It is our deep and genuine concern about the security of Mr. Odinga and other opposition heads… And we know there is a constitutional ramification if anything happens to a presidential candidate,” Orengo stated.

According to the Constitution, "an election shall be cancelled and a new election held if a candidate for election as president or deputy president dies on or before the scheduled election date".
