Locations Where More Footbridges Will Be Built on Thika Road

The Government of Kenya has announced a plan to construct four footbridges along Thika Superhighway in an upgrade that will see the removal of speed bumps and rumble strips.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Engineer Cleophas Makau, the Deputy Director of Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), noted that the bridges would be built at Garden city Mall junction, Kenya School of Monetary Studies, Witethie area and the Magumu road junction.

The KeNHA deputy director stated that the work would start in January adding that the tenders have already been awarded to Fourways Construction Limited and Interways Works Limited.

Engineer Makau noted that the priority was given to places where accidents occur frequently.

He also stated that the first phase of the construction of the four bridges was funded by the Kenyan government.

Mr Mutua also divulged that the state corporation plans to have at least eight more bridges on the superhighway by next year.

He revealed that the corporation body is seeking financial aid from Belgium sources to aid in the construction of more footbridges.

"We plan to have at least eight bridges by the end of next year. I am now seeking funds from Belgium sources, the first four bridges were funded by the Kenyan government," he stated.

All bumps and rumble strips will be removed from the road in an attempt to comply with the move.

The number of footbridges will increase to 22 on the road in a move aimed at controlling pedestrian accidents.
