Boda Boda Rider Runs Over Police Officer in Bomet

A boda-boda rider on Wednesday ran over a female traffic officer while trying to evade arrest in Bomet County.

Confirming the incident, Bomet OCPD Samson Rukunga disclosed that the officer was manning a roadblock along the Silibwer-Litein road when she tried to flag down the rider.

He stated that the man was trying to evade arrest when he hit the officer and critically injured her.

The impact of the crash caused the officer to lose consciousness. She was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.

“The police officer is out of danger and is responding to treatment,” Rukunga told journalists.

The rider also sustained injuries in the collision and was taken to Silibwet Dispensary.

He was discharged and fled, going into hiding.

The OCPD stated that they had launched a manhunt for the suspect.

“We are looking for him to ensure he faces charges. He is known to the officer and once she is out of hospital she will help with the investigation,” he added.

Earlier in November, a driver abducted a female traffic officer who had arrested him along the Mumias-Bungoma road.

The female officer was assigned to escort the vehicle to a police station. That is when the driver sped off with the officer in the matatu.
