Four police officers were, on Wednesday, arrested after they were accused of robbing Kshs 291,000 from a businessman in Tassia, Nairobi.
The suspects were accused of abducting, torturing and robbing the businessman, who also doubled as a clinical officer.
They were arrested by Special Crimes Prevention Unit after an investigation was carried out in connection with the robbery that occurred on December 12.
Also in custody was a taxi driver who the unit claimed drove the officers around Nairobi on the night the incident took place.
Head of Prevention Unit Mr Pius Gitari stated that they were still looking for five other officers in connection with the incident.
“Investigations into the issue are ongoing and appropriate action will be taken on the suspects,” remarked Gitari.
The suspects, who are attached to Kayole Police Station, detained the medic and demanded the money when Kshs 261,000 was handed to them and the rest via M-Pesa.
The four are expected to be arraigned in court and charged with robbery with violence, abduction and unlawful arrest.
Cases of police arrests have been on the rise in the country recently.
In May 2018, another police officer was arrested in the same neighbourhood and accused of breaking into a house and making away with household items.
The assailant was reportedly in the company of two female accomplices who were armed with knives.
