Ex-CS Rashid Echesa Vows to Pay AFC Leopards Despite Being Fired

Immediate former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa, on Thursday, vowed to follow through a pledge he had made before being axed from the Sports Ministry.

According to Citizen TV, the troubled former CS promised to ensure that AFC leopard are paid their dues amounting to Kshs 1.7 million.

In February, 2019, the last month Echesa served before getting fired, he promised the troubled team from Western Kenya that he would ensure the Ministry of Sports settled their outstanding player allowances.

He further revealed that he made the promise as a CS and that the money must be settled.

“I talked on behalf of the government and the money will still be issued to the club. I will follow up it up with my colleague CS Amina (Mohamed) and ensure that they get their money.

“We didn’t have a deadline as such because mostly, government money does not have a deadline,” stated Echesa.

The troubled team had cited the cash woes as part of the reasons they posted a weak start in the season.

On March 1 this year, Echesa was fired from his role by President Uhuru Kenyatta and replaced by former Education CS Amina Mohamed.

He formally handed over the docket to the newest appointee on March 5 while revealing that he learnt of his firing on national TV.

The ceremony was held at the Sports Ministry offices where he took the chance to thank President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto for appointing him to the position.
