Bodies of two Kenyans were on Wednesday, February 19 discovered in a local hostel in India.

In a report by Indian publication NDTV on Wednesday, February 19, the two bodies were found in a hostel based at Gurugram as confirmed by the Assistant Commissioner of police in Gurugram Preet Pal Singh during a press conference with local journalists.

"We received complaints that smell was coming from the accommodation of two Kenyan nationals, one of whom is a lady and used to work as a teacher in a school, and the other is her friend," Preet stated.

The Assistant Commissioner also indicated that the two may have met death days before when their bodies were discovered.

"Upon breaking into the accommodation, the body of the lady was found lying on the floor while the body of the male was found hanging from the geyser in the bathroom.

“It appears that the body had been lying there for three or four days," added the ACP.

The ACP only confirmed the identities of the deceased as David aged 34 years and Ruth who is 27 years old.

Ruth worked as a teacher at Lancer International School in DLF Phase 5.

The local hostel employees reportedly informed the police about a strong smell that emanated from the third-floor room number 304 after which action was taken by the authorities.

Preet also confirmed that the Kenya embassy has been informed of the discovery and investigation in the case was ongoing.

This came after the body of Kahawa Wendani MCA Cyrus Omondi was found at a hotel in the same country on Wednesday, February 12.

Omondi reportedly died in the hotel while on a benchmarking trip that saw members of the Kiambu county assembly education committee embark on a trip to India.

Omondi’s body arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Sunday, February 16, where it was received by family members and leaders from Kiambu county led by governor James Nyoro.
