The ODM Party has officially declared the party’s support for Machakos Senatorial aspirant Agnes Kavindu.

In a media release sent on January 29, 2021, the party clarified that it will be supporting the Wiper Party candidate for the Machakos senatorial by-election.

‘’In the spirit of Nasa and BBI, we shall rally our support behind the Wiper Party Candidate Ms. Agnes Kavindu to become the next senator of Machakos County. Ms. Kavindu was a member of the BBI Steering Committee that came up with the Bill before the counties,’’ the statement read.

This comes a day after the ODM Party Machakos County Branch endorsed Maendeleo Chap Chaps’ Senatorial Candidate John Mutua Katiku.

Speaking during a press briefing Peter Mutuku, ODM Machakos County Branch Manager, pledged the party’s support as the by-election draws near.

This decision was made after a meeting comprising of all 8 sub-county ODM branches was held. The branches included Mavoko, Matungulu, Yatta, Kathiani, Mwala ,Masinga ,Machakos and Kangundo.

Governor Mutua yesterday announced on his social media platforms that he welcomed the endorsement by the Machakos Branch. He added that the partnership would indeed extend beyond the March 18 by-elections.

The senatorial seat which is seen as a fight between ex-Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama and Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has attracted 11 aspirants.

Muthama has been campaigning for UDA candidate Urbanus Muthama Ngengele. The candidate has received support from Ruto’s Tanga Tanga wing.

The Tangatanga movement supported Feisal Bader who won the Mswambweni by-election and therefore the senatorial by-election will be used as a litmus test to measure the popularity and influence of Ruto ahead of the 2022 elections.

The by-election is scheduled for March 18, 2021.
