Safari rally fans have converged in Naivasha for the weekend-long competition that has brought together world renowned drivers competing in the World Rally Championships (WRC).
The WRC competitions started on Thursday, June 23, and will conclude on Sunday, June 24. Even as Kenyans are grappling with tough economic times, here are a few suggestions to help you enjoy the fun that comes with Safari Rally without breaking a bank.
First, create a budget that you will stick to before leaving Nairobi or any other city. In this budget, prioritise the following;
1. Carpool with friends
With fuel prices skyrocketing in the country, you can share a ride with friends. This is cost-effective and you will save on fuel. Carpooling allows you to share the cost of fuel and parking, cutting your expenses by nearly 50 per cent or more. Notably, the more occupants in your carpool the more you save. Carpooling is also socially economical.
2. Accommodation
You are encouraged to not only seek value for money when choosing an accommodation but highly consider, value for money within the lower end of the accommodation price spectrum.
Camping is a fantastic way to sleep for free in Naivasha. You can hire camping equipment from various online stores or from friends who will not be going to Naivasha. Pack your own bedding and make sure you have warm clothing because the weatherman has announced that it will be chilly.
3. Food and cutlery
Pack snacks from home so you don’t have to buy overpriced ones from convenience stores. Fill a jerrican from your house with water and take a smaller empty water bottle with you and fill it up when you want to quench your thirst.
If you have a portable grill, carry it and you can make a barbeque during the WRC. Prior to leaving, go grocery shopping and cook instead of eating out for every meal. Bring non-perishable groceries from home or pack up a cooler with ice for things that have to stay cold.
4. First Aid Kit
First-aid kits help you manage medical emergencies as quickly as possible. In case of an emergency, a delay of just a single minute can cause irreconcilable damage. A first aid kit is your go-to for reducing the severity of the injury and preventing infection.
In most first aid kits you will find the supplies to treat cuts, burns, scrapes, sprains and many other common ailments.
5. Electronic accessories
Keeping your devices charged while travelling can be hard and there are numerous circumstances where a low battery or out of power can turn into a major inconvenience. A power bank can keep your camera charged so you never miss out on the perfect shot. You can find the power bank that fits your needs perfectly.
Remember to carry your chargers and an extra pair of flashlights for the night.
