Three police officers managed to escape the Turkana massacre that left 11 people dead, according to fresh reports from security agencies.

According to a police report, the three officers escaped death by a whisker and rushed to the Lokori General Service Unit (GSU) camp.

The police have since launched investigations to trace six firearms that were registered under the deceased officers, which are still missing.

The report indicated that the GSU officers dispatched to track the bandits encountered a counter-attack at the Namariat area. The ambush claimed the lives of eight police officers, a chief and two civilians.

“The combined reactive mobile patrol of GSU officers that were dispatched yesterday at 9 am to areas of Kakiteitei consisting of ten GSU officers from Lokori GSU camp encountered contact with suspected Pokot bandits at 5 pm at Namariat area.

"The officers had laid an ambush at the area when suspected Pokot bandits who had raided a home within Turkana appeared in large numbers and surrounded a section of the patrol team," read part of the report.

Two officers were also injured in the melee but survived within an inch of their lives. One officer, shot on the shoulder, was rushed to Lodwar County Referral Hospital, while the other cop- who sustained injuries on both legs- was admitted to Lokori Sub-County hospital.

The news comes as President William Ruto had ordered officers to decisively deal with the culprits in the Turkana ambush.

The president also assured the residents that cattle rustling would be a thing of the past in his administration.

"After receiving a comprehensive report on the Turkana/Pokot incident that led to 10 security/administration officers losing their lives, I have instructed security agencies to deal firmly, decisively and conclusively with those involved. Cattle rustling will stop na sio tafadhali," Ruto stated.
