Ababu Namwamba

Ababu Namwamba is the current Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports.

He is also an astute politician and a qualified lawyer.

Before becoming the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Namwamba served as the Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During his tenure at the helm of the Sports Ministry, Kenya won a joint bid to host the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Tanzania and Uganda.

He has also played a pivotal role in establishing the Talanta Hela Programme which seeks to spot and nurture talents among the youth.

Namwamba, a previous Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)  has served in various roles in government since his entry into active politics including serving as MP, Assistant Minister, Chief Administrative Secretary, and now as a Cabinet Secretary.

Before joining politics, Ababu was an activist and advocate for human rights, garnering numerous accolades for his commitment to these causes. 

Notably, during his tenure in activism, Namwamba championed the fight against discrimination faced by children living with HIV and AIDS. 

His efforts were recognised with prestigious honours, including the Global Justice Award and acknowledgment as one of the Young Global Leaders by the World Economic Forum.
