Dr. Davji Atellah is the current Secretary General of the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU), and has been a prominent advocate for healthcare workers' rights and improvements in Kenya's medical sector.
In 2024, Dr. Davji’s leadership was marked by various advocacy efforts and challenges that warrant him a place in our Top 100 Kenyans list.
In February 2024, Davji was at the forefront, leading fellow medical practitioners in protests aimed at highlighting the delayed posting of medical interns and the financial strains faced by postgraduate medical students.
The demonstration aimed to press the Ministry of Health to address these critical issues. Unfortunately, the protest escalated when police used force, resulting in Davji being injured and sparking outrage among healthcare professionals and the public.
Aside from leading peaceful protests, Davji also engaged with government officials in negotiations aimed at improving the quality of life of medical providers. His efforts included advocating for better terms of service, increased funding for health infrastructure, and addressing staff shortages in public hospitals.
His championing of a better state of the healthcare sector extended to the global front where he participated in international forums discussing healthcare financing and workforce sustainability.
