
Rebecca Miano is Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Wildlife and Tourism whose 2024 was jampacked with several initiatives to not only market Kenya to the world but also ensure the safety of wild animals.
She is also a Kenyan lawyer and a continental business leader who served in previous high-level roles including as the Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade & Industry from October 2023 to July 2024.
Additionally, she also served as the CS for the East African Community, the ASALs, and Regional Development.
In the corporate sector, the soft-spoken lawyer served as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Kenya Electricity Generating Company(KenGen Plc), which has been one of the largest producers of electricity in the East African region since November 2017.
Miano broke records at KenGen by being the first and only female Chief Executive at KenGen after having risen from the role of a Legal Assistant.
Miano holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi and a Diploma from the Kenya School of Law, she also holds a Master of Laws in Comparative Law, from the Australian National University.
She is a Certified Public Secretary of Kenya and was voted the Best Public Service Leader of the Year at the East Africa 2024 Women of Excellence Awards.
Additionally, she holds three Presidential awards which include the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH), in recognition of her outstanding service to Kenya, the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) in recognition of her outstanding service to the nation and the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya(OGW).
Miano had the honour of being appointed by the World Bank Group as a participating member of the Advisory Council on Gender and Development in June 2021.
Other awards won by the CS include the Company Secretary of the Year Award in the Champions of Governance Awards series for her excellence at KenGen.
