Richard Mathenge

Richard Mathenge is the team lead at Sama - a global company that focuses on data annotation solutions for enterprise Artificial Intelligence (AI) models.

He is a resourceful Public Relations professional with over seven years' experience in the Customer Service industry. 

He has also been instrumental in promoting Artificial Intelligence within the continent. 

Mathenge, alongside other Kenyans were part of the team outsourced for training ChatGPT. 

This involved classifying materials as either explicit, hate speech or violent in nature. 

In May 2023, he was part of 150 AI professionals who voted to establish the first African Content Moderators Union, which would advocate for better working conditions in the tech industry. 

He also filed a petition in Parliament, lobbying MPs to investigate the working conditions that Kenyan workers being outsourced by the big tech companies are subjected to.
