Salim Ishmael

Dr Salim Ishmael is a prominent Kenyan medical professional and a key leader for Medics for Kenya.

As one of the more active medical professionals on social media, Ishmael's influence, especially among Gen Z, cannot be understated.

This was particularly evident during the anti-Finance Bill protests in Nairobi on June 20, 2024, when he publicly coordinated medical support for injured protesters at the Jamia Mosque, working alongside Dr Austin Omondi and a team of dedicated medics.

At the time, Dr Ishmael earned plaudits online for helping to establish a makeshift aid station that provided free medical assistance to those affected by police actions.

His leadership and commitment to public health and medical ethics have made him a respected figure in the Kenyan healthcare landscape.

Alongside Dr Austin "JaPrado" Omondi, Ishmael has gone on to set up @medicsforKenya, an organisation which provides humanitarian assistance while mobilising medical services for Kenyans who need it.

More recently, @medicsforkenya has been at the forefront of championing the rights of medical interns, who have been consistently involved in wrangles with the government over pay.

Dr Ishmael's organisation also showed support for medical interns by linking them to free individual therapy sessions.
