
Wawira Njiru is a philanthropist and nutritionist who serves as Executive Director of Food for Education, an organisation that provides affordable school meals to over 350,000 public primary schoolchildren across Nairobi, Kiambu, and Mombasa.
Her efforts have garnered both local and international acclaim. In April 2024, the Food for Education Foundation won the Social Innovator Award from the Skoll Foundation in Oxford, England.
In October, President William Ruto commended her for promoting education through school feeding programmes.

Wawira earned a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition Science from the University of South Australia in 2010.
In 2018, she became the first recipient of the Global Citizen Prize for Youth Leadership and was named among the 100 Most Influential Young Kenyans by Avance Media. In 2021, she was recognised as the UN Person of the Year.
Through her dedication, Wawira continues to transform the lives of children in Kenya, creating an environment that enables them to thrive academically.
