There isn’t really much to do now with the recent government announcements requiring people to observe social distancing among other measures to reduce the spread of Covid-19. You have probably been caught up in activities such as staring out the window as the sun changes positions, practising your whistling from your balcony, picking up a few hobbies, maybe finally cleaning the corners in the house that you have never touched before.

You have also spent so much time taking part or scrolling through ridiculous Instagram challenges. You might miss going outside but there’s certainly no reason to miss out on riveting drama, so here’s the tea!

When Maisha Magic Plus (DStv 163), Kenya’s newest premium local entertainment channel launched in March 2020, it created a buzz with DStv customers. Fans of local shows couldn’t have enough of the drama and fresh waves the channel injected into the local entertainment industry. The channel promised to deliver authentic, inspiring, distinctive and fun premium local content and so far, it has held up to that promise.

Maisha Magic Plus also saw a return of some of Kenya’s high-profile homegrown talent return to our screens on two riveting drama shows, Kina and Kovu.

Sanaipei Tande, known for her music and radio career recently made a grand comeback much to the delight of her fans. She returned as a fiercely strong character and the lead actor in the drama series Kina. Kenneth Ambani, famously known for his role in the past popular local drama, Tausi also bounced back as one of the lead stars in Kovu, another high-pitched drama that airs exclusively on Maisha Magic Plus.

Fans and followers of the stars who have been following the stories on social media have been begging for a piece of the action. Thanks to Showmax, Kina and Kovu are now available for fans to stream.

Kina follows the wealthy Tandalas and the poor Mwakazis whose very different worlds collide following a tragedy that sets the drama in motion. Sanaipei Tande plays Nana Tandala, a water magnate who owns Kina Waters, and who would do anything to get what she wants, even kill for it.

But her perfect world is about to be shaken by the young and fiery Bella Mwakazi who will not rest until she gets the justice her family deserves after her father is found dead by the river.

From Lulu Hassan and Jiffy Pictures comes Kovu, a new Swahili telenovela that follows the wealthy Haze family whose bonds are threatened by a dark secret after the family relocates from Tanzania to Kenya. Ken Ambani plays the Haze family patriarch Jaffar, a man who must deal with his wife’s growing restlessness and hatred towards her firstborn daughter, a reminder of her long-kept secret.
