Commuting to and from work in Nairobi is a hustle, I tell you.

But last week, when I was seated inside this 14-seater matatu heading along Waiyaki Way, waiting for it to fill, a stranger turned good samaritan made a generous offer rarely seen in Nairobi.

He paid for everyone’s fare out of a good heart, saying that he understood how tough the economy was and everyone was surviving on a stringent budget. He was a businessman who always explored new avenues for making money.

And indeed, he had discovered a new one a few days ago and saw it fit to bless some souls as he headed back home.

It was in the evening, at around 4 pm. As usual, the day had overwhelmed the majority of us. With the month almost midway, we felt the pinch in our pockets

The usual queues that are synonymous with Nairobi CBD started forming when I was seated.

Aii wewe, gari haiwezi kua 100 sai. Mimi nko na Ksh80 pekee ,” I heard a lady shout at the tout outside the PSV.

Hujui mafuta ilipanda,” the tout assumed her as he continued calling on commuters.

Soo moja (Ksh100) wanne wa mwisho. Soo moja wannne wa mwisho,” he shouted.

I laughed at the thought of commuters being convinced by the call. I was alone in the PSV, with 13 more commuters required to fill the matatu. But here he was calling for only four.

Anyways, si gari lazma ijazwe ama

The commuters who were standing outside peeped in, and I heard one say, “Hii itajaa kesho hata!”

Then this guy in a brown t-shirt boarded the matatu and sat beside me, smiling.

“Uko fiti bro?” he asked.

I nodded as I was quite exhausted and wasn’t in the mood for a conversation.

“Fare ni ngapi?” he asked,

“Ksh100,” I responded.

Conda (Tout) ambia io rende uiingie ntawalipia, nmechelewa,” he told the tout.

Even before the tout had made the announcement, the vehicle was packed with more scrambling at the door.

Haya gari imejaa, wewe na wewe shuka bana. Si wewe ndio ulisema hata hii gari itajaa kesho,” the tout told the woman who had peeped earlier on.

Everyone stared at this generous guy. “Are you seriously paying their fare, bro?” The tout asked.

The guy, via mobile money, sent Ksh1400 and smiled at the tout.

I was quite intrigued.

“If you were late, you would have taken a cab,” I wondered.

“Yes, I am not late. I just wanted to do something good today. I won some cash on Pesacrash,” he stated, adding that he was referred by his friend.

“What’s Pesacrash?” I asked, quite curious.

Pesacrash, a unique betting website where you win every 10 seconds, usingoje 90 minutes to win.

“You can also play with your own odds, from 1.01 to 3,000, and the best part is that you can cash out your money before the bet settles. Stake as low as Ksh10 and makeover Ksh30,000 in 10 seconds.

“You also do not have to bet manually, you can activate auto bet and earn money as you engage in other activities,” he added.

I rushed to join, but he asked me to calm down.

“Bro, let me send you my referral code so that I can get 2% on every deposit you make,” he stated and assisted me in registering via pesacrash.com

“Enter your bet amount and click BET. You can optionally enter an Auto Cashout value to let the system cash out for you automatically. Once the graph starts rising, click on Cashout @ x to cash out manually. If the graph busts before you cash out, you lose,” he added.

I placed my bet as the PSV sped past the University of Nairobi into Waiyaki Way to connect with Waiyaki Way.
