The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be. Some famous quote adds that it is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.

Thus whatever we do, and every small growth in our lives, largely shapes our destiny.

For me, my destiny was to change the world. Make people happy by coming up with solutions to everyday challenges.

I am staying in Zimmerman, Nairobi. In fact, I have stayed here all my life with my folks and after I moved out kusort life yangu

While on campus, hapo Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) in Survey of Thika Road, I crafted some side hustles to earn cash.

One of those was a delivery shop. I called it YourShop. We ran it through WhatsApp and Telegram. I brought together my two friends, Kama and Jose and two bike riders. That was my first company.

We delivered items to students and guys around the hoods. All you did was order online via DMs ama phone calls. We had partnered with some stores at CBD, where we earned via commission.

Our end goal was to open our own shop and stuff household and other commodities for sale. Nairobi lazima you hustle

Kama and Jose were both struggling with raising fees and fares when I met them at a school party.

I was chilling, listening to some music. You know sherehe za jiji, some gengetone, amapiano, and Afro beats are enough to push your day.

In my hand was a glass of Chrome Gin. Limited Edition. Kitu safi. It kept me busy as I nodded my head to the beat. We are the guys with two left feet, so dancing is not our thing.

I loved art and creative stuff like painting and innovation. I expressed my thoughts and ideas through art.

But then there was this instrumental the DJ was playing, and when I heard the music, it was like liquid adrenaline being injected into my veins. It wasn’t quite strong, but enough to make me tingle and start to move my body.

So the DJ at this party, where mafresha tulikua tumejaa was Kama, and Jose was the drinks guy. The supplier.

After the party, the two of us spoke for some time, and it was when we birthed the idea of delivery as a side hustle.

But first, I shared the idea of us moving into a three-bedroomed house in Zimmerman to cut costs. Life for students on campus was quite exhausting.

My idea was we save, and better ourselves. These guys used to call me a motivational speaker.

“Bro, uko na advice mingi sana,” they’d sometimes troll me as we laughed.

But I saw the future. My mother used to say I was always ahead of my peers. I knew our hustle would pay, but I wasn’t sure how.

I always kept my pals in the loop, and for three years together, we expounded on ideas. I would look for gigs where we would deliver drinks and events where we would sell merchandise like t-shirts and hoodies.

We also managed a joint account where we deposited the cash, and had weekly meetings to discuss progress. If we were in Silicon Valley, we might have been Mark Zuckerberg or some renowned innovators.

Sometimes, we would spend quite the night discussing how to expand the project. Burning the midnight oil, then after work, relax and enjoy some music, but of course with some Chrome Gin.

In our line of duty, we also accepted both compliments and criticism. You know it takes both sun and rain for a flower to grow.

As our business expanded, we also thought of some corporate social responsibilities. We brought in some friends and started a program to mentor the youth, especially boys.

Our idea was to give back. Giving liberates the soul of the giver. It uplifts your spirits. Our motto was to Give Without Remembering

On our graduation day, we celebrated more than undergoing the education system. We celebrated generosity, changing society and togetherness.

We celebrated embracing our true authentic selves - the givers and innovators. And as always, we organised a sherehe

The best thing was that Chrome had launched a limited-edition pack for its gin variant. The new pack features messaging that speaks to the attitude and vibrancy of the brand. As a consumer and fan of the brand, it speaks to me as well.

The limited-edition design features three messages around the ChromeTM street celebration theme, namely: "Sherehe," "Kujinauwo," and "Kitu Safi." The limited-edition packs are available on shelves from December 2022 to March 2023.

We would embrace the new drink at our party, as Chrome lovers. But during the day, immediately after graduation, I met a business friend who had sponsored some of our initiatives.

The guy was also an established foreign CEO, specialised in start-ups, and he had always wanted us to partner. I had asked him to allow us to grow independently for a few years.

“You can come aboard my company as an employee and also manage your own delivery programme. I’ll fund you to start an app and expound more on your project. We can also brand your community projects to enable you to reach out to more people,” he added.

In our wake of life, sometimes, we do things for recognition. But for us, our goal was to make a difference. Whatever you do will always make a difference, but you must decide what kind of difference you want.

You have to strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value. And our value had paid off.

“I accept the offer, but on condition that all my four close friends come aboard too. We still need each other,” I responded.

“Of course, we can discuss more after your party. Mmepata spot ama we can party together?” he asked.

We all met that evening at an exclusive party in CBD.

“So, you all think I still have too many pieces of advice huh?” I trolled Kama and Jose as we laughed and recalled our freshman years.

“Success mtu wangu. Tell the waitress akuje na Chrome Smooth & Crisp Gin we toast to happiness,” Kama replied.

“For me I am grateful that despite you landing the contract, you still negotiated for us to come aboard,” Jose added.

The limited nature of the pack makes it a good gift for you to give to each other as a gift, to collect, or to share with friends and loved ones during this festive season.

That’s what friends are always for, right? But more than that, we were freethinkers. The true believers of “Kenyanism”. People who know how to make things work from where they are.

We embraced the street culture of building each other. Enjoyed the freedom to express ourselves without boundaries and experiment with our art. And to celebrate such success, we needed nothing else than Chrome Smooth & Crisp Gin.

Kupiga sherehe, kujinauwo na kitu safi.

I see some youth afraid of pushing themselves. Nothing is quite hard to achieve. All you need to do is start and push yourself maze. Na sherehe upige responsibly. Fanya job, then relax later with your Chrome Smooth & Crisp Gin.

Being mbogi ya Chrome means we know how to have responsible fun. Sherehe, kujinauwo na kitu safi ni filosofi tatu tru!

Chupa ni limited edition lakini dreams zako hazina limit, ama niaje?

While the LEP has a fresh design, the bottle contents remain the same. What has changed is the bottle colour from green to clear and the 3 different themes.

Anyway, the limited nature of the pack makes it a good gift for you to give to each other as a gift, to collect, or to share with friends and loved ones during this festive season and as we usher in the new year.
