In actor Lenana Kariba’s world, a menial job isn’t part of his vocabulary.
According to sources close to the family, Lenana works as a watchman in an elite bank in the UK.
But wait. Lenana? Picture him. No... Let’s stalk his Instagram page for a while. Lenana looks dapper in expensive suits, crisp as a new banknote. Some are grey, maroon, black, green etc.
Some would say he has a taste for fashion, but I’d say he describes fashion in its entirety.
In one photo, his recent, he stands below a street light, with his white shirt representing the aristocratic cutting lines of a great tailor. One hand massaging his expensive watch, and one leg posed across the other, breathing the calm refreshing London air, miles away from home.
Behind him are red bougainvillaea, leaving a trace of incomparable beauty by complementing the lush green grass spread beside a white gate.
Thus a photo of Lenana, famous for starring in hit shows Selina and Single Kiasi, working as a security guard in London, UK, is a stark contrast, if true.
Lenana appears to be pondering, clutching tightly to a hand-held metal detector.
Further from his expensive outfits and, I bet, scented cologne, he dons a black security guard’s uniform, with his left hand resting on his right one.
After welcoming a few clients, Lenana must be missing home. His hopes of searching for a better life in the UK may plummet.
What are his roles? According to insiders, he frisks clients, assists them in filling forms, listens to their lamentations and complaints, opens doors for his bosses, and opens and locks the doors in the morning and at dusk.
He also beefs up security, a role he only portrays in films occasionally.
But what happened to Lenana, who drives Kenyan viewers crazy with his theatre mastery? A thespian with years of experience and nearly 300K followers on his social media pages?
Lenana left Kenya for the UK to live with his wife, Hellen. The two tied the knot in September 2021 on the Caribbean Island of Antigua, two months after he proposed. What a lucky guy.
The wife desired a beach wedding, and Lenana granted her wish. The two also sought to raise their kids in the UK.
"We won't do a gender reveal thing, but we will reveal the gender of our child in the next week," he stated in March 2023. The couple expects their first child in May 2023.
Lenana and his wife stated that they travel back and forth to Kenya to enjoy the experience of both countries. But with him landing a watchman role, will he sustain the family’s lifestyle in the UK?
