John Paul Mbugua, aka Indiginas was born and raised in Kenya before moving to California, USA. His music career started in earnest in 1996. However, it took three years to fully immerse himself in wrinting and rapping. Indignas was motivated by then emerging Kenyan artists such as Nameless, Gidigidi Majimaji, and Darling P.
The year 1999 witnessed the emergence of a popular urban Kenyan music genre know as Kapuka, which Indignas soon became part of. It was this same year that Indiginas released his first successfull single Ujuzi. After receiving rave reviews and warm public reception, the single was officially recorded at the Ogopa Deejays studios in Nairobi in 2002. Ujuzi went on to receive plenty of air play on Kenyan FM stations.
Indiginas went on to record ‘Katika‘, which became a runaway hit and featured on the Ogopa 2 compilation album. His third singleM.O.U featuring Mr. Lenny was released in 2004 and quickly got on the heavy rotation list of many Kenyan radio and TV stations. In Kenya, Indiginas performed around the country in cities like Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Thika and Eldoret. In 2005, Indiginas moved to the United States and settled in the Bay Area of the state of California. He has performed in Los Angeles, San Diego, Oakland and Dallas. Indignas is currently working on releasing his debut album under the IDG record label.
