The Global Startup Awards on Friday, July 19, announced the 2024 Eastern African Regional Winners, who are now competing for the Top African Title.
Seven countries were represented among the Eastern regional winners: Ethiopia, Mauritius, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Sudan and Uganda, with Ethiopia taking the lion's share with five winners reflecting the impact of the host nations' efforts.
"This year, the competition has witnessed a record-breaking number of entries and public engagement, highlighting the robust and dynamic entrepreneurial landscape across the continent," it was announced of the competition.
Of the 11,949 entries, Eastern Africa accounted for 26 per cent, an increase of 15 per cent from 2023 (Northern 13 per cent, Central 7 per cent Western 26 per cent, and Southern Africa 28 per cent).
