Britam General Insurance has expanded its support for medical practitioners by offering enhanced benefits for nurses and clinical officers under its professional indemnity insurance.

Kenya has a large number of registered nurses and clinical officers, but professional indemnity insurance is not mandatory for them, unlike for doctors. Eligible healthcare professionals for this enhanced cover include the over 60,000 registered nurses and 25,000 clinical officers who are active members of their respective national regulatory bodies or associations in Kenya.

The most common claims under professional indemnity include allegations of negligence or malpractice, defamation, breach of confidentiality, cost of disciplinary hearings and loss of documents.

"Nurses and clinical officers play a pivotal role in patient care. Their actions and decisions significantly impact patient well-being. Our professional indemnity cover is designed to protect these healthcare professionals, ensuring they can perform their duties with peace of mind, without the constant fear of legal repercussions,"  Jackson Theuri, Britam General Insurance CEO and Principal Officer stated.
