One person has been killed and another, a Nation Media Group photojournalist, seriously injured during Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party nominations in Homa Bay County.
The deceased was killed in Mbita Constituency while the journalist was injured in Rangwe after chaos erupted.
According to Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo, the victim was ruthlessly attacked by goons hired by her political opponent.
She reported the matter at Homa Bay Police Station, noting that the windscreen of her vehicle was also shattered after the said goons hurled stones at her supporters.
The protests come amid claims by a section of politicians, including Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga, that violence had been planned to disrupt the polls.
ODM earlier cancelled the party primaries to be held in Siaya and Kisumu while they continued as planned in Migori and Homa Bay counties.
Aspirants who will emerge victoriously are expected to be announced on Tuesday.
