Police officers from Kiambu County are investigating the untimely death of a man who was revelling at a popular entertainment joint in Kiambu on the morning of Sunday, May 26.

The deceased was with his friends at the local joint when commotion ensued resulting in the deceased and the suspect going outside where the shooting occurred.

According to the deceased's family members, the man was shot dead at the entertainment by another reveller wielding a gun. This was after an argument ensued, resulting in a brawl.

The cause of the shooting was yet to be established with family members and friends calling for the suspect's arrest.

"It's with great sadness and quite shock that I share the news of our cousin's tragic passing. Earlier today at 3 am, he was shot dead outside a sports bar in Kiambu," one of the relatives stated.

Family members revealed that the deceased has left behind a son and unborn child. His body was moved to the local morgue as investigations continue.

After the shooting incident was shared online by one of the relatives, a section of Kenyans have called for the police and other relevant authorities to rein in all Kenyans who are illegally in possession of firearms.

Residents have raised alarm that some revellers are being allowed to enter nightclubs across cities and major towns in Kenya carrying firearms posing a significant threat to other Kenyans.

Another incident was reported in July 2021, at yet another popular entertainment joint along Thika Road. Two police officers and a woman were shot dead in an incident captured on CCTV.

According to the Firearms Act, anyone seeking to own a firearm should apply for a license and pay the prescribed fee. The application is reviewed by relevant authorities before it is approved.

Per the Act, anyone who is found with a firearm without a license or a permit commits an offence and upon conviction is liable to imprisonment for life.

"The licensing officer shall grant the firearm certificate if he is satisfied that the applicant has a good reason for purchasing, acquiring or having in his possession the firearm or ammunition in respect of which the application is made, and can be permitted to have in his possession that firearm or ammunition without danger to the public safety or to the peace," reads part of the Act.
