Foreign tourists and Kenyans accessing parks and reserves on Sunday, June 2, were left stranded after the eCitizen portal faced challenges.

In a statement from the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS), all members of the public were informed about the technical challenges at the parks' entry points.

"We wish to inform the public that we are currently experiencing technical challenges with our payment system in all parks and reserves. We are working with the eCitizen team to resolve the issue as soon as possible," KWS stated.

According to the service, the technical hitch was recorded in the early hours of Sunday before it was restored more than 3 hours later.

KWS apologised for the inconvenience caused to all those affected by the delay at the entry point.

The tourists and members of the public gained entry almost three hours later when KWS announced that the issue had been resolved.

"We are pleased to inform you that the payment system has been restored and is now fully operational," the service announced.

Since President William Ruto announced that all government agencies to onboard the portal 2023, there have been numerous instances of tourists being stranded outside parks and reserves after eCitizen collapsed.

In August, hundreds of tourists, especially foreigners heading to the Nairobi National Park, were pictured stranded outside parks attempting to make payments through the system.

This was as a result of increased transactions causing the system to collapse. It was hours before KWS resolved the matter.

President Ruto also announced a consolidated pay bill number 222222, to reduce the chances of taxpayers' money being misappropriated.

An official from KWS earlier remarked that the challenges were only temporary since it was adopting the new technological process. Here is the simple step procedure to pay at all national parks.
