Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi is off the hook after a Magistrate’s Court acquitted him over charges of forging academic papers.
According to Magistrate Felix Kombo, the state was unable to build a strong case against the Kapseret lawmaker.
The magistrate explained that the failure of the state to produce and substantiate the documents meant the charge could not stand.
Kombo faulted the investigating agencies over how they obtained a part of the evidence.
He clarified that there was a credibility issue with how the evidence was collected from a hotel.
The Sudi defence team stated that the accused was qualified and had genuine academic papers.
“We also thank the court for considering the evidence that was produced, and the analysis of the evidence. We confirm that our client is qualified and doesn't have fake certificates as alluded to and has been set free by the court,” the defence said.
The defence complained that the case had dragged on for about 8 years and therefore the acquittal was a huge relief to them.
The acquittal came after former Highway Secondary School principal, Patrick Maritim, told the court that Sudi did not sit his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams at the school in 2006.
Speaking before the court on Thursday, May 19, 2022, Maritim denied that Sudi was one of the candidates in the school. He stated that the purported index number could not be traced to him.
In more complications, Maritim told the court there were no records to show that Sudi picked his result slip and school leaving certificate after completing Form Four.
Currently, the MP who is a close ally of President William Ruto is embroiled in political supremacy battles with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Gachagua, without mentioning his name, claimed that people close to the president were causing a lot of political noise and selling propaganda.
