Matatus Collide in Horrific Night Accident Along Nyeri-Karatina Highway

Several passengers are feared critically injured after two matatus collided head-on along the Nyeri-Karatina Highway.

The Sunday night accident attracted the attention of locals who rushed to the scene awaiting emergency personnel.

Reports indicate that a section of the road was under construction which may have resulted in the accident.

Police are yet to confirm if any passenger lost their life after the accident. However, photos seen by Kenyans.co.ke indicated that both vehicles had been damaged especially on the co-driver's seats.

Additionally, at the scene of the accident, several car parts had been scattered on the road as the residents attempted to rescue the passengers trapped inside the car.

Details of the two drivers were also undisclosed at the time of publishing this article.

Another accident involving a matatu and a truck was reported earlier on Sunday along Thika. Injured passengers were crying for help inside the vehicle.

On Saturday afternoon, 10 people were reported dead after another accident in Mai Mahiu two, Naivasha, Nakuru County.

The accident occurred after a matatu full of passengers collided with a truck. The bodies were taken to the morgue while the injured passengers were rushed to hospitals for treatment.

Data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) indicate that 1,189 Kenyans have passed away in road accidents between January and April.

During the period under review, 7,198 Kenyans have been involved in road accidents. 3,316 Kenyans were seriously injured and 2,693 suffered minor injuries.

This is an increase from the number reported in the same period in 2023. At least 1,129 died, 2,435 had serious injuries while 1,726 sustained slight injuries.
