Radio Africa Group founder and Chief Executive Officer Patrick Quarcoo is stepping down after leading the media stable for 24 years.
In an official statement sent to Kenyans.co.ke on Wednesday, June 26, the media house noted that Quarcoo was leaving to pursue personal interests.
He will, however, be available to help shape the company’s future, in his capacity as a substantial shareholder.
The outlet's Chairman Kiprono Kittony praised the departing executive noting that his contributions laid strong foundations to lead the company through all seasons.
“We are grateful for Quarcoo’s dedication and leadership over the years. His contributions have laid a strong foundation for our future,” Kittony stated.
“As we embark on this new chapter, we aim to leverage our digital platforms more aggressively and ensure sustainable growth, and continue to deliver value for our advertising partners.”
Quarcoo will be succeeded by Martin Khafafa, the company’s current Chief Operating Officer, who was appointed to the position by the board to manage the company on an interim basis.
Martin Khafafa holds an MBA from the United States International University (USIU) and the Instituto de Estudios Superiores de la Empresa (IESE).
Quarcoo founded Radio Africa Group in 2000, which houses The Star newspaper and a slate of successful radio stations.
He also spearheaded the media house's presence in Nigeria.
"As Radio Africa Group moves forward, this transition marks a pivotal moment for our business," read the statement in part.
"We are committed to realigning our operations to enhance cost efficiency, drive profitability and digital growth in the light of major industry changes. This includes an intensified focus on digital transformation to meet the evolving needs of our audience and to capitalize on emerging market opportunities."
During his time at the helm of the company, Quarcoo oversaw management of The Star newspaper, KISS FM, Classic FM, Redio Jambo, East FM, Smooth FM, and X FM.
In 2021, the media boss was appointed to the Kenya End Malaria Council and Fund.
