The families of the two victims of the Anti-Finance Bill protest have each received Ksh 1 million raised in solidarity with their fallen colleagues.
Rex Masai and Evans tragically lost their lives due to severe injuries from an alleged police shooting incident in the Central Business District (CBD).
Activist Honey Farsafi disclosed screenshots of the transactions in an X account on Friday morning, showing Ksh 1 million sent to each of the two families.
"Hello, guys. Remember Rex and Evan’s? The first victims of this cruel regime. We have sent one million each to their families that’s their mum." read part of the tweet.
The activist further detailed that the remaining cash would be sent in due course to help the family with expenses incurred.
"The remaining will be sent to the family of Ian, who was shot three times in the back and won’t be able to walk again."
A screenshot shared by the mentioned user in the X showed that of the amount contributed, Ksh127,494 was charged as a platform fee, and a total of Ksh 2,999,846 was withdrawn to be equally sent to the two families.
Due to the bank transaction limit, the user had to send the amount in installments.
According to reports, Rex Masai was fatally shot during an incident captured on camera in the early evening hours of Thursday, 20th June.
Footage showed a person firing at protesters around 7 pm as police attempted to control the protests in the CBD.
Moments later, fellow protesters who rushed Masai to a medical facility confirmed that he had succumbed to his injuries at a facility within the CBD.
Preliminary examination by doctors indicated that Masai had been struck by a bullet in the thigh.
On the other hand, Evans Kiratu, as reported by the X user, was shot three times during the protests, leaving him severely incapacitated.
