Senator Samson Cheragei and his counterpart Enoch Wambua have called for the disbandment of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

While on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday, July 3, the senators stated that the EACC had failed to discharge its mandate to the country.

The Senators further claimed that the EACC was lenient while dealing with the political elite hence the country’s deeper plunge into corruption.

According to Cherargei officials from the commission were engaged in meeting the suspects involved in corruption cases and letting them go easy.

“If today's EACC was serious, three-quarters of governors would be in jail by now. Because even some of the people serving as the State Officers, they should be in jail but EACC has failed us, stated Cherargei.

Wambua on the other hand added that the Commission was also engaged in corruption hence justifying its disbandment.

“The institution that has been tasked with fighting corruption in this country is itself the biggest den of corruption,” Wambua stated.

He added that the EACC would not assist Kenyans in fighting corruption as required.

“The EACC is either unwilling or unable to fight corruption in this country, they will not help us in this country,” Wambua added.

Additionally, the Senators went after the Members of Parliament, citing that they embezzled the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), affording them opulent lifestyles.

Further legislators hit out at the MPs stating that the CDF should be disbanded and development realigned to the County Governments.

The Senators added that the government needed to exercise austerity measures as proposed by Kenyans during the protests.
