The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have saved a 7-year-old boy abducted in Kawangware on June 30, 2024.
In an intense search conducted by detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit based in Kabete, the culprit behind this abduction was also arrested.
According to the detectives, the victim was abducted within the precincts of his father’s church in the Congo area of Kawangware to the agony of the clergyman's family.
Reports and uproar from the area residents prompted officers to launch a manhunt for the suspect behind the hostage. The minor was found in Ruku in Kabete Constituency in Kiambu county.
"After days of relentless pursuit, the boy was found in Ruku area of Wangige, and the suspect, Juston Musundu, 33, was arrested in possession of different SIM cards and mobile handsets used by him to cover his trails," DCI statement read in part.
This forms a series of operations done by the DCI to save minors from such unsavory incidences.
In a similar incident in January, the DCI arrested a suspect linked with kidnapping a 9-year-old Grade three pupil from a school in Donholm in Nairobi County.
The investigative agency disclosed that the suspect abducted the minor in the evening hours after school.
In the statement, the DCI revealed that the minor's father went to pick him up from school only to find out that he was missing.
Upon making inquires, the father was told that his son had been seen leaving with his class teacher which prompted him to begin an immediate search for his child.
According to the DCI statement, the father later received a call from the kidnappers who demanded ransom amounting to Ksh10 million.
"A team of detectives drawn from the Nairobi Region Command in collaboration with colleagues from DCI Buruburu launched a thorough operation in Kayole Sabasaba area, leading to the rescue of the minor who had been locked in a room believed to have been rented by another teacher, who works in the same school with the main suspect," the statement read.
Following the successful sting operation, the police promptly rescued the minor and rushed him to the hospital for a thorough check-up.
Subsequently, the law enforcement team continued their operations and arrested one suspect linked to the kidnapping.
