Machakos governor Wavinya Ndeti has slammed unnamed political leaders claiming that they have been funding youths to destroy property in the pretence of anti-government protests.
Speaking on Thursday, July 11, in Machakos, the county boss said she was aware of her detractors including political leaders who have been dishing out money to a section of youth with a view of unleashing violence and destroying property in Machakos County and its neighbourhood.
"We have certain local leaders here in Machakos, who are funding youths to destroy property," she claimed.
"There are political leaders who are funding criminals in the pretence of youth-led protests to come and destroy our property," she later added.
The governor vowed to incorporate the views of the youths in implementing some of the county government policies and projects.
In a rallying call against looting and destruction of property, Wavinya urged the youths to refrain from such heinous acts.
"I am condemning the destruction and vandalism of property, we have had our people in Machakos county from Mlolongo to Machakos losing their property because of some hooliganism."
She sounded a strong warning to criminals eyeing youth-led protests.
The governor further urged the youths to stage peaceful protests in their call to push for accountability in governance.
"We have had enough in Machakos if our children want to demonstrate, let them demonstrate in peace."
This comes amid youth-led anti-government protests that had rocked most parts of the country.
The protestors, the majority being Gen Z, had put pressure on the government to drop the tax plans proposed in the Finance Bill that was later withdrawn by President William Ruto.
The protests by the youth were largely reported and credited to nontribal, in contrast to previous demonstrations that were easily labelled as tribal demands by the political and security establishments.
