The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) on Tuesday announced two Kenyan athletes Daniel Muindi (3 years) and Judith Jerubet (2 years) had been banned due to the use of banned substances.

Muindi was banned for three years starting July 10, after he was found to have used the prohibited substance Norandrosterone.

On the other hand, Jerubet was banned after she was found to have used Triamcinolone acetonide which is also banned by AIU.

Muindi's woes began in May 2024, when the 29-year-old provided a urine sample at the Lima Marathon held in Peru.

On June 27, the World Anti-Doping Agency laboratory lab in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil reported to AIU that the urine sample showed the presence of banned Norandrosterone

The athlete was informed of the results and asked to provide a B sample for retesting.

“On July 12, 2024, the AIU received an Admission of Anti-Doping Rule Violations and Acceptance of Consequences Form signed by the Athlete,” a statement of AIU read in part.

Pending the ban, Muindi has accepted disqualification of results on and since May 19, 2024, with all resulting consequences, including the forfeiture of any titles, awards, medals, points, prizes and appearance money.

For Jerubet, she provided a urine sample on March 24, before the Bank of China Wuhan Marathon held in Wuhan, China.

“On April 18, 2024, the World Anti-Doping Agency accredited laboratory in Beijing, China reported that the analysis of the sample had revealed the presence of Triamcinolone acetonide,” AIU reported.

The athlete was informed of the results and requested to provide another sample for retesting.

After failing to respond to multiple requests to provide another sample for retesting AIU remained satisfied that the Athlete had committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation.

“The AIU has no evidence that the Anti-Doping Rule Violation was intentional and the period of ineligibility to be imposed is therefore a period of 2 years,” the Athletics body stated.
