The National Integrity Alliance (NIA), which encompasses five non-governmental organizations on Thursday called on the Ethics and Anticorruption Commission (EACC) to probe all the recently sacked cabinet secretaries.
The lobby groups while addressing the press, urged the anti-graft commission to keenly scrutinize the dismissed ministers and audit their wealth.
The NGOs led by the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) also called on President William Ruto to consider appointing honest and uncorrupt leaders with no legal violations on record.
“We call on EACC to commence lifestyle audits and investigations targeting the recently sacked CSs and other public service officers," the non-governmental organizations demanded.
"These also include public officers that citizens have profiled for displaying obscene opulence that does not align with their declared sources of income,” the lobby groups added.
According to human rights groups, the dismissed cabinet secretaries must be held accountable for their time in public office to ensure that the public funds were not mismanaged through corruption.
President Ruto was also urged to order investigations into the atrocities committed against peaceful protesters during the recent demonstrations.
In particular, the NGOs demanded action be taken against the former Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and his defence counterpart, Aden Duale for the deaths witnessed during the anti-government demonstrations.
"Kenyans have been aggrieved by the conduct of a majority of the former cabinet secretaries in addition, there has been no political accountability for the various corruption cases such as the fake fertilizer and the mosquito net scam," the groups stated.
The demands come hardly a fortnight after President Ruto dismissed all his cabinet secretaries sparing the Prime CS who also doubles up as the foreign affairs minister.
While holding a presser at State House in Nairobi, Ruto stated the move was in line with the demands made by Kenyans during the recent nationwide demonstrations.
"Upon reflection and listening keenly to what the people of Kenya have said and after holistic appraisal of the performance of my Cabinet and its achievements and challenges," Ruto stated.
"I have today in line with the powers given to me decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the CSs and AG except the PCS and CS for Foreign Affairs and the office of the DP is not affected in any way," he added.
