The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party on Wednesday nominated Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed as the new Minority Leader in the National Assembly.

Junet replaces Ugunja MP James Opiyo Wandayi who was recently nominated by President William Ruto to the position of Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary.

ODM party similarly nominated Suba North legislator, Millie Odhiambo as the new Minority Whip in the National Assembly. Millie takes over the new position from Junet Mohamed.

Meanwhile, Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi was appointed as Chairperson of the National Assembly's Public Accounts Committee. The position was previously held by Treasury CS Nominee John Mbadi.

In its announcement, the opposition party also confirmed the formal resignation of the four party leaders who were recently nominated by President Ruto to cabinet.

However, the ODM party dismissed allegations of entering an agreement with President William Ruto's administration despite four of its members being nominated into the cabinet.

"We reiterate that there is no agreement of any nature between ODM and Kenya Kwanza," read part of the statement by the ODM party.

"ODM therefore remains a member of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition and will continue to play its opposition role."

ODM announced it would be embarking on wide consultations among its membership in a bid to consider new appointees for the vacant positions left by the party's cabinet nominees.

The latest announcement comes hardly hours after Azimio leader Raila Odinga held a closed-door meeting with a section of ODM leaders eyeing key party positions.

Among the attendees of the meeting included Kisii Governor Simba Arati and his Mombasa Counterpart Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir.

Odinga later met with Azimio principals including Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Jeremiah Kioni of Jubilee party and KANU's Gideon Moi.
