The nominee for the position of Health Cabinet Secretary Debra Barasa on Thursday disclosed that her combined net worth together with her husband stood at Ksh455,845,320.
"My net worth is a combination of mine and my husband and it is Ksh455,845,320," the Health CS nominee told the committee.
Debra, who appeared before the National Assembly's Committee on Appointments, reiterated her commitment to championing reforms in the health sector if members approve her for the critical docket.
According to Barasa, her immense experience as a health practitioner in both the private and public sectors was adequate proof of her ability to address the challenges within the health sector.
She disclosed that before her nomination as Health CS, she worked with multiple health organisations across the continent and globally.
"I have immense experience in poly advise, strategic experience, technical advice and clinical practice, I have worked from primary level up to national level at the Kenyatta level," the CS nominee revealed.
The CS nominee also vowed to embrace Universal Health Coverage (UHC) from the community level in a bid to ensure seamless access to healthcare.
She further pledged to fight corruption within the Ministry of Health by strengthening the processes and procedures.
"We can strengthen the processes and procedures that exist through adopting a digital platform, that way, we will reduce the human-to-human interaction," CS Nominee Debra Barasa stated.
To address the challenges presented by the transition from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), the Health CS nominee promised to work handily with community members to ensure Kenyans understand the need for the transition.
According to Barasa, the current challenges were due to poor community engagement.
"The service is to the people of Kenya, and so we need to engage them, we need to embrace and have community feedback, and I believe that it was one of the challenges," Barasa noted.
