A businessman and philanthropist identified as Kenjava Wakogoto Mwaniki from Embu has taken upon himself to repair a shabbily done St. Annes Kiriari-Kithunguriri Road after a milk vendor got involved in an accident Tuesday and lost his entire stock.
Wakogoto took action to repair the road after he heard the plight of John Kinyua alias Gatia, who spilled 182 litres of milk while taking it to Kiriari Market in Embu County.
John Kinyua, in an interview with Kenyans.co.ke, confirmed that the developer has started repairing the stretch.
“True to his word, Wakogoto already has sent tractors and machinery on site this morning. We are hoping the road will be fixed for good,” he confirmed.
Upon learning of the tragedy, Wakagoto directed Eagle 1 Concrete and Machineries Ltd, where he serves as CEO, to ensure it rehabilitates the road within 72 hours.
Earlier on Tuesday, Wakogoto and other well-wishers visited Kinyua and gave him financial support to resume his milk-vending operations. Kinyua noted that he needed the boost to secure new stock of milk and thanked the businessman for his timely aid.
“I visited Kiriari Market and was privileged to meet John Kinyua who paid the ultimate price for the poorly done job,” Wakogoto shared.
“At Wakagoto Nation (a movement) we believe in ‘Tunatoleana Jam tuinuke sote pamoja’ [We help each other rise above traffic] to underscore our credence. We have supported him with working capital to enable him resume operations immediately,” he continued.
Fortunately, Kinyua did not sustain any injuries at the accident scene.
“I was carrying milk with my motorbike to the point of collection before I slipped and fell. Luckily, I was not hurt but 182 litres spilled on the road,” he explained.
Residents of the area have been complaining to the relevant authorities about a section of St. Annes Kiriari-Kithunguriri Road which they say has caused them huge losses.
On the morning of the incident, according to Kinyua, another milk vendor earlier slid with a motor bike, lost his milk on the same stretch of the road.
