The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on Friday sent a stern warning to its ousted Secretary General Cleophas Malala, cautioning him against what the ruling party described as dragging its chairperson Cecily Mbarire and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah into his politics.
In a statement signed by Interim Secretary General Hassan Omar, the party, responding to allegations Malala made on Thursday insisted that the ousted Secretary General was legally and procedurally removed from office.
The party used this as a basis to caution the former official against staging further unwarranted protests.
"Malala's ouster was a collective decision by the Party's National Executive Committee (NEC). the same organ that had appointed him to hold the position in an "acting" capacity. Suffice it to say, the organ that appointed him is the very one that unanimously decided to replace him," the party communicated through its statement.
In the statement, the party unequivocally expressed its opposition to Malala's allegation that his ouster and the reported impeachment being lined up against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua were directly linked.
"The Party notes with great concern the frantic efforts by Malala to link his ouster with the purported impeachment of the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua,"
"We find it gross that he is now casting aspersions on the part of the Party's leadership, invoking the names of Party Chairperson Governor Cecily Mbarire and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah in the purported impeachment,"
"We wish to caution Malala against roping the Party and particularly its Chairperson and the Majority Leader," the party communicated.
UDA reminded Malala that Mbarire, is not an MP and can't therefore sponsor a motion of impeachment against him.
The statement issued by the ruling came after Malala, the ousted Secretary General on Thursday accused Mbarire and Ichung'wah of going to extreme lengths to oust him from office to pave way for Gachagua's alleged impeachment.
Speaking during a live press conference, the former Kakamega Senator accused the two politicians of staging a "coup" in the ruling party with the sole purpose of weakening Gachagua's position.
“My ouster had nothing to do with incompetence or my inability to run the UDA party but was a well-choreographed script intended to climax with the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua,” Malala claimed.
Malala's ouster on August 2 was the culmination of weeks of infighting within the ruling party that saw goons linked to the former Kakamega Senator storm the party's headquarters along Ngong Road in a bid to stop him from being being kicked out.
This however, did not materialise, leading to the UDA's National Executive Committee (NEC) replacing him with former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar who took over in interim capacity.
