The National Police Service has released an official statement highlighting milestones achieved by the force deployed in Haiti.

It comes two months since the first Kenya Police Contingent to the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) to Haiti was deployed in Port-au-Prince in the Caribbean Coast.

Although still in its deployment phase, the MSS team, according to NPS, continues to make  progress together with the Haiti National Police and the citizens of Haiti.

The National Police Service noted the cooperation of the host’s police service has contributed to the progress in the two months the contingent has been deployed.

“Multinational Security Support Mission has managed to pacify threats to public safety and security,” read part of the official statement.

Further, in the two months, MSS has taken over critical infrastructure including the airport from a local gang that was exercising control over the critical infrastructure.

The deployment of the contingent also opened up critical roads that were closed. The move has enabled the return of thousands of Haitians who had earlier fled for their lives.

The National Police Service has noted that it continues to work very closely with other countries, partners and the United Nations to ensure continued support to the MSS.

In a bid to clarify and dismiss claims of delays by the troops, the service confirmed that officers deployed still receive their entitled pay.

“National Police Service officers continue to draw their NPS salaries and the processing of their MSS deployment allowances has also been finalized,” the service asserted.

The Service further commended the MSS Force Commander, Mr. Godfrey. Otunge, SAIG and his team for their patriotism and dedication to duty. It comes barely a week after the contingent received 24 armoured vehicles on August 23.
