A section of persons living with disability (PWDs) has called out the government for isolating them in national appointments.
Northern Kenya Disability chairman Hafid Maalim accused President William Ruto of failing to include them in the distribution of the national cake.
They, therefore, called for the appointment of its members in government, more so in strategic leadership positions citing that no person with disability has been rewarded with a top position by Ruto’s administration.
“We believe that we are Kenyans who can be considered and acknowledged in our capacities and we feel left out from this regime in terms of jobs and business opportunities,” Hafid stated.
He observed that people with disabilities should be allocated slots of permanent secretaries in various ministries as well as members of various boards as they are citizens like other appointees.
“We have a problem with people living with disability being left out of leadership positions in the government.”
The chair noted that people with disability are peaceful people who do not engage in protests as such they should be given preferential treatment in the appointment of jobs.
He further noted that most PWDs despite being qualified for most jobs are out there languishing in misery and poverty as most employers disregard them.
“President, you have the opportunity to change our lives, do something. We believe in participating in national building,” Hafid addressed President Ruto.
“Disability is not a crime, we have ideas and knowledge to contribute and be involved in any initiative concerning the prosperity of our country.”
They called on the government to support them and prioritize their inclusion in the government.
In their plea, they said they wanted an audience with the president to present their issues.
